MULTAN: The family of former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday was showered with felicitations all around after news broke about the recovery of his son Ali Haider Gilani, three years after he was kidnapped from a pre-election rally in Multan.
Ina statement, the Foreign Office confirmed that Ali Haider Gilani was recovered in a joint military operation by the US and Afghan forces in Ghazni province of Afghanistan. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif congratulated Yousuf Raza Gilani upon the recovery of his son and his imminent reunion with the family once he returns to Pakistan.
Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif also telephoned Yousuf Raza Gilani and expressed his felicitations on the occasion. A Bilawal House spokesperson said that Gilani thanked the army chief for the gesture. Whilecongratulating the former prime minister, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that the news was overwhelming.
The Pakistan People’s Party leaders and workers flocked to the former prime minister’s residence in Multan shortly after they received news of Ali Haider Gilani’s recovery. As soon as the news broke, the party members present at a PPP’s Bagh rally in Azad Jammu Kashmir started celebrating.
Speaking to media representatives, Gilani’s son Abdul Qadir Gilani said that the family was overjoyed upon receiving the news. Musa Gilani said that he was immensely happy over the news and words failed him at the moment. The Taseer family, Asifa Bhutto and others also congratulated the Gilani family.
